Meatballs with Tomato Sauce in Sandwich is a very tasty and appetising dish for all the family! It is a way to surprise your children and your husband!
The idea for this recipe came from looking at my husband behaviour: he loves making sandwiches with food! It doesn’t matter what he is eating, he will make a sandwich out of nowhere. So, this time, I wanted to play ahead! And of course, I surprised him!
This is a different way for serving a simple dish, but I think it is really nice to eat, like finger food!

Preparing the Meatballs with Tomato Sauce in Sandwich
Preparing the sandwiches
Put the flour, the yeast and the sugar in a bowl. Add the milk/water a little at a time, kneading with a wooden spoon. Add the oil and combine it.
Add the egg and carry on kneading.
Turn the dough over onto a lightly floured surface and quickly knead it with your hands.
Combine the salt and keep kneading until a uniform and soft dough is obtained.
Transfer the dough obtained in a greased bowl. Cover with cling film and let it rise until it is doubled in size.
Take the dough out of the bowl and turn it over onto a lightly floured surface.
Shape it into small balls of about 90-100 g each.
Arrange the sandwiches onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Let them rise for about 30-45 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 190° C in convection mode.
Bake the sandwiches for about 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Take them out of the oven and let them cool.
Preparing the meatballs
Mix the beef and the pork meat with the ham, the egg and the cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
Mix the ingredients until a uniform mixture is obtained.
Take a teaspoon of this mix and shape it into a small ball. Arrange it onto a dish. Repeat this process until the mix is finished.
Mince the carrot, the shallot and the celery.
Let these vegetables sweat into a pan with some oil.
Add the tomato pulp, the spices you want (for example: rosemary, bay, oregano) and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In another pan, warm some oil and, once hot, add the meatballs: brown them.
When they are brown onto both the sides, transfer them into the tomato sauce (be careful: you should avoid adding also the cooking oil for the meatballs).
Keep cooking at low heat, until the meatballs are done. The cooking time could vary depending on the meatballs size.
